Industry Conditions/Outlook
Recent trends toward consolidation in the food and beverage industry have focused on both cost reduction and market share control.  As commodity prices have increased, many larger food and beverage companies have looked to acquisitions to offset margin reductions through greater efficiency and product price growth.  With valuation multiples for many sectors at more attractive levels than prior years, M&A activity appears to be picking up. We have recently seen interest in both branded and private-label production, but strong brands with the ability to command premium pricing have been particularly attractive to buyers as cost reduction strategies have been maximized for many industry participants.
