James is a manager in the financial valuation practice and is also the UK leader of the firm’s complex financial instrument services and transfer pricing. He joined American Appraisal in 2007.  James holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Pure Mathematics and Philosophy and is a qualified Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

James specialises in providing valuation advice for both private and public companies for the following:

James has extensive experience with advising clients globally.  In addition to business and derivative valuations, James also specialises in the valuation of intangible assets. Examples of client experience include:

  • Quarterly valuation of warrants for a listed oil and gas investment company for regulatory purposes
  • Valuation of a US based private equity business and the subsequent share waterfall for internal negotiation purposes
  • Enterprise valuation of a large private equity owned entertainment business with a view to restructuring the ownership of the company
  • Valuation for restructuring purposes of a fund manager with over £400 million in assets 
  • Negotiating various share valuations of privately held companies with HMRC
  • Company valuation and subsequent share valuation of a large UK insurance company for internal negotiating purposes     
  • Dispute resolution in regards to a private insurance broker
  • Valuation of a fund manager with £20 billion assets under management. He valued the entire operating business and then allocated that value to all of the different units within the business. Then valued new share classes for tax purposes and agreed valuations with HMRC. Valuations are performed annually.
  • Intangible asset valuation for a large defence contractor for regulatory purposes
