John is the nonexecutive chairman of American Appraisal in the UK and is also a nonexecutive director on the main US board of American Appraisal. In addition to the customary responsibilities associated with his roles, John acts as a mentor to the most senior group of executives and has firsthand relationships with the group’s clients in circumstances where this is desirable.

In addition to his work with American Appraisal, John is also nonexecutive director of various other significant organizations, including:

• 1988 to 1998 - Chairman of Newcastle Hospital Special Trustees
• 1987 to 1997 - Nonexecutive Director, Tyne & Wear Development Corporation
• 1996 to 2002 - Nonexecutive Chairman, London R&D Committee NHS
• 2002 to date - Nonexecutive Director and Chair of Audit Committee, Grainger Trust Plc
• 2002 to date - Nonexecutive Director, Northern Investors Company PLC
• 2005 to date - Nonexecutive Director and Chairman, KCS plc
• 2006 to date - Senior Independent Nonexecutive Director & Chairman of Audit Committee, Leo Capital PLC

Before accepting appointment to this portfolio of nonexecutive roles, John was a Partner at PwC, where he was a key member of the Executive Team for more than 20 years. He was responsible for global management of the firm whilst also acting as the Tax and Corporate Finance advisor to some of PwC’s most distinguished clients.
