Joseph Martins

Joseph is a director specializing in advisory services for sawmills and the pulp and paper industry. In addition, he has broad expertise in the valuation of tangible assets related to Canada’s primary industries. 

Joseph performs valuations of fixed assets for financial reporting (including purchase price allocation, IFRS/ASPE adoption and impairment testing), insurance placement, merger and acquisition, collateral financing, export certification, tax reporting, and liquidation and other divestiture purposes.  He has completed assignments in all 10 Canadian provinces as well as in Europe, Mexico, South America and the United States.    

Joseph has been qualified as an expert witness for property tax valuation in British Columbia and Manitoba. He has assisted the British Columbia Assessment Authority by providing instruction in the valuation of sawmill properties and serving as a consultant in the development of the Major Industry Properties Cost Manual.

Joseph has taught at the Machinery and Equipment Seminar held by Vancouver Community College, and presented his paper, “Impact of Assessment on the Forest Industry,” at a seminar for The Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia.

Prior to joining American Appraisal in 1976, Joseph worked in the forestry industry.
